News: La Traviata auditions
Have you ever wanted to be part of an Opera? Now is your chance.
North West Opera and Spark Opera are combining forces to stage a cross-border co-production of Verdi's masterpiece La Traviata. This is a fantastic opportunity to be part of one of operas greatest romances and walk the floor boards at the Millennium Forum as the two community companies are searching for local talent to fill their voluntary chorus.
La Traviata is the story of Violetta, a glamorous Parisian courtesan with a scandalous reputation. She falls for a young admirer, Alfredo, and - choosing love over money - flees with him to the countryside. As their romance continues, her past catches up with her and she is forced to give up everything to protect him.
Packed with some of the best known music in opera, 'Brindisi' (the drinking song) 'Di Provenza il mar', 'Sempre libera' (forever free) and a chorus of matadors and bull fighters, La Traviata is lyrical and heart-breaking, appealing directly to the emotions. A classic tale of love, scandal and sacrifice, it is currently the most popular opera in the world.
Kate Guelke, the show's director, said "We're looking for actors and singers of all experience. When the curtain goes up, they'll be standing alongside internationally renowned opera singers - so we want people who are as passionate about music drama as we are."
The performance is scheduled for August 7th and 8th with auditions taking place at the Millennium Forum on the 18th and 19th of March. To reserve a spot, simply email Kate Guelke at katelilianguelke@gmail.com. For ROI enquiries, email Ann Jennings at annjennings@live.ie.
